Eris Dwarf Planet |
The
Eris is second largest known dwarf planet and most massive dwarf planet in our
solar system. The Eris is the ninth most massive known object that orbiting the
sun and sixteenth most massive overall including all moon in our solar system.
The Eris is largest object that has not been visited by any spacecraft. The
scientists observed that the dwarf planet Eris has a one moon orbiting around,
named as Dysnomia.
The Eris most massive dwarf planet |
The dwarf planet Eris is named
after the Greek goddess of discord. The Eris is once considered for the
position of our solar system’s tenth planet. But Eris can not pass the new
definition of planet which was set by the international Astronomical Union. But
they demoted the planet Pluto to dwarf planet. The Eris is Trans Neptunian
Object. The Eris orbiting the sun in a region of space known as the scattered
disc. This scattered disc is just beyond the Kuiper belt.
What is Dwarf Planet Eris?
The
dwarf planet Eris and Pluto both are similar as suggested by the scientists.
So, the core, mantle and surface of the Eris may be similar to the Pluto. The
core of Eris may made of iron and rocky material as Pluto’s core. The Eris is
the rocky dwarf planet. The mantle of the Eris is very thin and it is made up
of nitrogen rich ice and frozen methane. As I said, no any spacecraft visited
the Eris. We don’t have any specific information about the dwarf planet Eris.
As Eris is most distinct object. So, at this time we don’t have more
information. So, we can’t undoubtedly say, the structure of the dwarf planet Eris.
The
Eris is far enough from the sun that methane can condense onto the surface. So,
Eris appears almost white. But when Eris coming closer to the sun. The
condensed methane ice on the surface might warm enough to create the
atmosphere. But when Eris going far from the sun then the atmosphere condenses
onto the surface. This repeat again and again. This estimated diameter of the
Eris is calculated as 2326±12 km. This makes Eris a little smaller than Pluto. But
Eris is more massive than that of the Pluto.
Orbit of the Eris |
The
Eris dwarf planet requires 559 Earth years to complete one orbit around the
sun. The Eris requires 25.9 hours to complete one rotation around its axis of
rotation. The distance between Eris and the sun is most highly inclined of all
the dwarf planet. The inclination is nearly 47 degrees from the plane of the
planet’s orbits. This rotational time is nearly same as our Earth. The Eris
closes distance (Perihelion) from our sun is 38.271 AU and the farthest
distance (Aphelion) from the sun is 97.457 AU. The average orbital speed of the
Eris is approximately 3.43 km per second. For sometimes, Eris will be closer to
the sun than Pluto. The Eris comes closer to the sun typically Perihelion
38.271 AU for scattered object. This means the Eris is within the orbit of the
Pluto and very near to the orbit of Neptune Planet but still safe from direct
interaction with Planet Neptune and dwarf planet Pluto. The Eris is smaller
than Pluto but according to mass calculation by scientists. The Eris is 27%
more massive than the Pluto. The temperature of the dwarf planet Eris is
varying from -217 degree Celsius to -243 degree Celsius.
Now
we discuss about the magnetic field of the dwarf planet Eris. The information
about magnetic field of Eris is not available at this time. But the Eris has a
one moon. So, the Eris may have some effective magnetic field around it. But we
nothing know about Eris magnetosphere.
Moon of Eris : Dysnomia
The
Eris is the most distinct object which is orbiting the sun. As Eris is
categorised as a dwarf planet along with Pluto. The Eris is a little smaller
than the Pluto. But still Eris has a moon. The Eris moon is small is size. The
moon Dysnomia is named after daughter of the Greek goddess Eris, the demon
goddess of lawlessness. The moon Dysnomia orbiting the Eris in nearly circular.
The Dysnomia requires 16 Earth days to complete one orbit around the Eris. The
average orbital speed of Dysnomia moon is 0.172 km per second.
The Dysnomia moon of the Eris |
The
Dysnomia moon is second largest moon of the dwarf planet after Pluto’s moon
Charon. The distance between Eris and moon Dysnomia is approximately 37,300 km
or 23,200 miles. According to the scientists observations on Kuiper belt
Objects or KBOs, the Dysnomia moon of the Eris is composed primarily of ice.
But currently there is no any direct information available about what is
Dysnomia made of ? The Dysnomia was the result of collision between the Eris
and other Kuiper belt object. After the collision, the icy material gets
together to form a Eris only moon named as Dysnomia.
